OPPORTUNITIES

Anyone can volunteer at IOCP.  More than 600 community members-from children to CEOs-are engaged in activities through IOCP that strengthen their community. Choose from a wide variety of opportunities and sign up!

DIRECT SERVICES

Case Management Support
hours: 2-3 hours weekly or monthly
tasks: work with case managers on a variety of tasks, including research, updating displays, calling clients, and processing mailings
location: IOCP Wayzata office

Employment Services Resource
hours: flexible, on-call
tasks: provide opportunities for clients to learn more about the workplace through informational interviews, job shadowing experiences, and volunteering
location: IOCP Wayzata office, CONECT centers in Plymouth

CONECT
Adult and youth services provided through resource centers at 8 multi-unit apartment neighborhoods in Plymouth.

Homework Helper
hours: 1-2 hrs, 1-2 evenings, Oct-May
tasks: work one-on-one or in small groups with elementary aged students to provide help with homework, assist with computer tasks, encourage academic achievement, serve as positive role model

Community Dinner Sponsor
hours: 2 hours every other month
tasks: gather prizes, set up and clean up room, welcome families, serve refreshments, lead game or designate a resident to do so

Computer Instructor
hours: 2.5 hours a week
tasks: teach basic computer skills to adults in small group setting using prepared curriculum; classes include intro to the computer, Windows, using the Internet, Word, and Excel

Computer Tutor
hours: 1-2 hours a week
tasks: assist youth or adult residents with varying levels of computer proficiency with education and employment-related tasks in a small computer lab  

Newsletter Manager
hours: 2 to 4 hours a month for each of 6 apartment neighborhoods
skills: experience using MS Word or MS Publisher; ability to do simple page layout and follow a template; must have access to a computer, preferably a PC
tasks: work with IOCP staff to design and produce simple newsletter; copy and distribute to each resident

Child Care Helper
hours: 2 to 3 hours per event     
tasks: supervise play activities with children (infant to 6 years old) during a community activity

Bingo Leader
hours: 2 to 3 hours monthly, quarterly, or special holiday
tasks: plan menu, coordinate set-up, serving, and cleanup
Center Cleaner
hours: flexible, planned around program needs
tasks: simple, regular cleaning of program and office space

Event Sponsor
hours: varies; minimum of 3 hours/event
tasks: work with CONECT program staff and residents to coordinate community building events

FOOD SHELF

Sponsorship Coordinator
hours: 1 month a year
tasks: work with members of your church or other organization to conduct a month-long food donation drive in support of the IOCP Food shelf

Food Shelf Support
hours: select, Mon-Fri
special need: Tuesday, 10:30-noon
tasks: prepare bags, assist with food distribution, receive deliveries, stock shelves

TRANSPORTATION
Provides transportation for medical appointments and other critical needs. Call Susan Fetterer, 952-516-6061

Transportation Coordinator
hours: negotiable
tasks: orient and train volunteer drivers and dispatchers; schedule dispatchers; attend monthly meetings

Phone Volunteer
hours: 9-noon; days negotiable
tasks: match ride requests with driver availability; work done by phone

Driver
hours: negotiable
task: provide scheduled rides in driver-owned vehicle

EDUCATION RIDES
Provides transportation to adult basic education and English as a second language classes. Call Susan Fetterer, 952-516-6061

Rides Coordinator
hours: about 15 per month
tasks: prep monthly driver schedule; communicate with District #284 Adult Basic Education coordinator regarding student participant info/needs

Driver
hours: 8:30 or 11:30 a.m., weekdays
tasks: drive students one way only to Central Middle School in Plymouth for classes

ADMINISTRATION

skills: experience, great customer service
tasks: route calls and individuals to staff members, interact with participants, be ambassador to the community


HOUSING

hours: as needed for client home repairs
skills: basic construction, plumbing, or electrician skills
tasks: completing home repairs related to health and safety or structural concerns

Foreclosure Assistant
hours: as needed; scheduled with clients who are behind on house payments
skills: financial management, mortgage, lending, or collections experience desired
tasks: assist with clients who are behind on their mortgage or in foreclosure

COMMUNICATIONS AND FUNDRAISING

Event Planning
hours: variable, flexible
tasks: plan and implement fundraising events; chair or be a member of an event committee. Fundraising events include bi-annual gala (Spread Your Wings), annual plant sale, annual 5K walk/run, fundraising breakfasts, waffle breakfast, choirfest, etc.
Skills: good communication skills; positive energy; good organizer.

Sleep Out Volunteer
hours: variable, flexible, October-December
tasks:  recruit groups willing to organize, publicize, and implement an overnight Sleep Out in November/December to raise awareness about the need for affordable housing in our communities and to raise funds through participant pledges
skills: good communication skills, lots of energy, passionate about cause

Specialized Volunteers
hours:  flexible and project specific
tasks: work with IOCP staff on one-time communications projects

Graphic Design
hours: flexible
task: assist in graphic design of flyers, invitations, and other project-specific communication pieces

Electronic Communications
hours: flexible
task: assist IOCP in creating and distributing e-blasts, e-mail groups, creation and distribution of an e-newsletter, presence on facebook, YouTube or other internet communication tools

Marketing
hours: flexible
task: develop marketing plan to increase involvement of youth and young professionals
Public Relations/Media
hours: flexible
task: train staff around promotion of IOCP's work through effective use of media; track hot news topics pertaining to IOCP's mission and assist in promoting IOCP work related to those topics.

PARTNER PROGRAMS

skills: like working with children; training provided by reading specialist
task: help 3rd, 4th, or 5th graders from Oakwood, Gleason Lake, Birchview, or Sunset Hill elementary schools practice reading skills
