Final Y Night Draws 120 Youth
Y activity night for middle school youth.
The final Y Middle School Activity Night of this school year was held Friday, April 23, at the Ridgedale YMCA. More than 120 kids enjoyed the gym, pool, dancing, art projects, media games, bingo, ping pong, pizza and just hanging out with friends.
Y Nights are a good example of what “community” is all about. The idea to provide a safe place for middle school kids to relax and have fun under the supervision of caring adults was the brainchild of Brenda Heim, with support from the CICC. Under the guidance of Becca Fink, youth director at the Ridgedale Y and chair of the CICC, this event now functions pretty much on its own.
The success of Y Nights is also due to the strong partnership that has evolved with the principals, vice principals, and staff of the three Wayzata middle schools. In addition, the Y staff, the Minnetonka Center for the Arts, IOCP’s CONECT program, the Plymouth police and the Y.E.S. students from Wayzata High School provide ongoing support to make sure kids have a fun and safe experience.
