Peter Larson, who has slept out each year since he was 6 to raise awarenessof and funds for people struggling with homelessness in the western suburbs, was one of 3 recipients of a special award given by the General Mills Foundation. Larson, the only youth, was named an Emerging Legend.
“Peter has inspired many people,” said Ellen Goldberg Luger, head of the foundation.
Now 17 years old and a senior at Wayzata High School, Peter has become a local celebrity for sleeping out in a box during November and December. He has raised more than $500,000, which IOCP uses to respond to the emergency housing needs of about 1,400 families each year.
