Sleep Out 2009: Shelter from the Storm
Now in its 14th year, the Sleep Out Campaign raises awareness and money for the housing needs in the communities we serve. This year’s need is $2 million.
“It was a tough year, and an even tougher housing and job market limited our capacity for responding to increased requests for housing help,” said LaDonna Hoy, IOCP executive director.
“Now it’s time to change that,” she added. “The Sleep Out 2009 provides a way to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, roll up our sleeves, and set our eyes on the prize—a successful $2 million Sleep Out Campaign to bring our people home. All of them, this time.”
A successful Sleep Out will support our whole housing services program and provide the beginnings of a new future for an anticipated 1,000 families entrusted to our care in the coming year.
“What more noble task could we be about?” said Hoy. “Who better than us? A wise woman once said, ‘There is no power greater than a community that has discovered what it cares about.’ I think she meant us.”
