Wayzata Task Force To Look at Affordable Housing Needs
The City of Wayzata plans to form a task force to study the need for affordable housing and suitable sites in Wayzata, according to a July 14 article in the Lakeshore Weekly.
The Metropolitan Council has asked each metro area community to do its share in providing for the 51,000 new affordable housing units needed by 2020. The guideline for Wayzata is 44 units. There is no enforcement for cities that don’t have their share by that date. However, it could impact their ability to qualify for grant money in the future.
IOCP Housing Director Kim Vohs indicated that the best thing the city can do to help move projects forward is identify sites it would support for affordable housing. Identifying sites could make it easier to get neighborhood support.
