Gary Moore, food shelf volunteer
Gary Moore, an IOCP Food Shelf volunteer since 2008, has earned quite a reputation. His coworkers, who have nicknamed him “handsome,” appreciate the energy and cheer he brings to his shift. And he willingly shares his infectious smile with every family using the food shelf.
“I want families who use the food shelf to feel welcome,” he said.
A member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Faith Community, Gary retired, in part, so he could give back to the community he loves. He does a number of tasks at the food shelf, from stocking shelves to grocery carry out.
Gary has an uncanny ability to be charismatic, caring, and cheerful, no matter the interaction. Better yet, he is a good listener.
“I really enjoy getting to know the people who come to the food shelf,” Moore said. “Once I hear their stories, I don’t forget them.
“It’s humbling. It makes me appreciate what I have. All the different stories, the different nationalities that we serve, and the connections they already have helps me know so much more about our community.”
