Holy Name of Jesus
A founding partner of IOCP, Holy Name of Jesus has been engaged with the organization since the beginning. “One of our most important ongoing outreach efforts is collecting food at our three masses,” said Sabrina Mauritz, director of parish life. “In 2010, we donated 17,635 lbs. of food.”
Holy Name collects food every week, not just during the March Campaign. About 150 to 200 families bring items each Sunday, and the youth come forward with the food during the offering. “We love that kids are developing the habit early to share what they have,” said Sabrina. “It helps to broaden their world.”
Bill Rudolph, long-time member at Holy Name, makes sure the food gets dropped off at the IOCP Food Shelf each Monday. While he attends 6:45 a.m. mass, staff load his truck. After mass, Bill drives it over to IOCP, where food shelf volunteers unload it.
“It‟s been a part of my Monday routine since 1991,” he said. Over the years, Bill has identified and implemented efficiencies to the process. He arranged for commercial containers on wheels to minimize the number of times the food was moved. He also advocated for two sets of containers.
“That way when I drop one set off, I pick up the empty ones. IOCP Food Shelf volunteers can simply restock their shelves directly from the containers.”
