Busy Seniors Make Time for Service

Three high school seniors have a creative plan for supporting MN FoodShare March Campaign. Every chance they have, they want to educat others about the impact their donation to the IOCP Food Shelf will make.

Connections run deep in this community. Three Wayzata High School seniors chose to volunteer at IOCP because their moms have volunteered here. “It offers a great way for us to have a direct impact on the local area,” said Emily Bathe.

These busy seniors came up with a plan that supports IOCP’s efforts during the MN FoodShare March Campaign. “We’re all part of the National Honor Society, which has a Leadership Service Project,” explained Haley Talen.

Peter Larson's Final Year Sleeping Out

17-year-old sleeps outside during November and December to help families without stable housing.

It’s impossible to think “Sleep Out” and not think of Peter Larson. For 12 years Peter has chosen to snuggle into a sleeping bag his grandmother made and collect pledges for his courageous effort. Who else would choose to sleep outside during November and December?

“I sleep out because, in my heart, I know I’m helping other people,” said Peter.

Since Peter began his effort when he was 6, he has slept out 295 nights and raised more nearly $400,000, enough to provide housing assistance for 450 IOCP families!

His goal this year is $100,000.
