Volunteer with Youth

We know that volunteering with youth yields a Return on Investment (ROI) that pays off for years, decades and lifetimes. Are you looking for a way to come alongside our community’s kids? See opportunities below and contact staff member Liz Erstad-Hicks (lerstad-hicks@iocp.org) to talk about your availability and interests. We can’t wait to help you discover your new volunteer passion!

  • Homework Club – Nearly 100 volunteers are needed to help students (K-5) complete their homework, gain confidence in school and form meaningful relationships. Individuals from diverse backgrounds encouraged to apply; our youth love having mentors and role models who look and sound like them. Open to high school and adult volunteers. No previous tutoring experience is required (training is provided). Contact us now to begin volunteering in the fall.
  • STRIVE Mentor — Mentor Orono High School students over the lunch hour (monthly) and during additional one-on-one communication in an effort to improve student performance related to attendance, attitude, GPA and participation. 75 minute meeting over lunch hour 1 time per month, September-May.
  • Compass Mentor – Serve as a mentor for local high school youth in a business class. Looking for volunteers with graphic communications and business experience to assist those entering the workforce with a different approach to learning. Attend 2-3 mentor activities and email or meet with a mentee a least once a week for one semester..
  • Children’s Play Area – Supervise and play with children (ages 0-8) in our lobby play room. Check in children and supervise while parents access our resources. Middle school youth are welcome to volunteer with a parent. Mondays and Tuesdays 3-5 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays 9 a.m.-noon, Wednesdays 4-6 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.

Check back for additional opportunities throughout the year. Thank you!
