Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners is proud to announce that Client Services Coordinator, Fatuma Irshat, is the recipient the 2017 Human Rights Award from the City of St. Louis Park. The award is given to an individual, group or organization that has helped form relationships between different groups in the city.
Fatuma works tirelessly in her community and beyond to preserve and increase affordable housing. She is a catalyst for meaningful civic engagement and creates powerful change in her city. She is a neighborhood organizer for the city and a member of the city’s Affordable Housing Team. In her apartment home, Oak Park Village Apartments, and in the broader city, she works to keep the local Somali community informed about tenant rights and housing policies.
She also encourages residents be active during elections. She does everything she can to remove the barriers that prevent people from being active in civic and public engagement. She wants everyone to speak up and help make positive change for their cities and neighborhoods.
The award was presented on March 5 at the City of St. Louis Park City Hall Council Chambers. Congratulations, Fatuma, and thank you for your amazing efforts!
