Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers of all ages encouraged to apply. Middle and High school age students are important to our work. Roles best suited for them are indicated by:

(HIGH SCHOOL+) open to high school aged volunteers
(MIDDLE SCHOOL+) open to middle school aged volunteers

education & youth

  • After School Mentor: Provide social and emotional support through academic or enrichment programming. Weekdays, afterschool hours. (HIGH SCHOOL+)
  • Teen Mentor: Supports middle school or high school aged youth who live in multi-family housing neighborhoods develop their identities, explore their interests, give back to their communities, plan for their futures, and form supportive and caring relationships with peers and adult mentors. Weekdays, evening hours. (HIGH SCHOOL+)
  • Lunchtime Helper: Sit with and engage students during lunchtime. Supervise and/or play at recess. Weekdays.
  • Children’s Play Area Volunteer: Supervise and play with children (ages 0-8) in our lobby play area. Check in children and supervise while parents access our resources. Weekday mornings and afternoons. (Middle School+)
  • Summer Camp Volunteer: Assist summer camp counselors with games, activities and field trips as we deliver quality summer programming for low-income elementary-age youth. Weekday afternoons. (HIGH SCHOOL+)
  • PEAK Family University: Welcome families, serve dinner, or assist with children’s activities during this 6-week program to help parents increase knowledge and understanding of the school system. (HIGH SCHOOL+)
  • Great Expectations Initiative: Engage parents and kids in our community to better understand their needs and overcome barriers with the ultimate goal of eliminating the opportunity and achievement.


  • Donation Driver & Hauler: Help gather and load up donations from local retailers to be transported back to the food shelf. Heavy lifting required (40-50 lbs.).
  • Inventory Volunteer: Help sort through fresh produce, dairy products and nonperishable donations and stock our shelves before families visit our Food Shelf. Weekday mornings. (HIGH SCHOOL+)
  • Distribution Volunteer: Assist families in our food shelf with shopping, answering questions, bagging groceries and helping with carry out. Bi-lingual Russian/English speakers are encouraged to sign up! (HIGH SCHOOL+)
  • Grocery Pack for Seniors: Pack groceries for seniors and people with disabilities who participate in our home delivery program. (All ages)
  • Donation Receiver: Support our food shelf and resale store by staffing our Donation Receiving door. Thank donors, help load in donations of food, clothing and household goods, and begin to sort and put away donations. (HIGH SCHOOL+)

transportation & rides

  • Provide rides for individuals in our local community who need help getting to medical appointments. Rides provided in driver’s vehicle.
  • Provide rides for individuals in our local community who need help getting to adult education and English classes. Rides provided in driver’s vehicle.
  • Assist with transportation of youth to field trips or community activities. Rides provided in Interfaith Outreach’s van.

family support services

  • Staff the Interfaith Outreach reception desk to assist our new or returning clients. Answer questions, help make appointments, register for services, explain programming, etc. Looking for volunteers who have strong, hospitable customer service skills and experience working with a diverse community.
  • Translate written documents or assist with onsite interpreting so that families can fully access Interfaith Outreach programs and resources. Russian, Spanish and Somali.


  • Help job seekers strengthen their resume by reviewing resumes from home or onsite with individuals.
  • Share your experience in HR or hiring by leading mock interviews with job seekers. Help candidates practice and improve so they can make a strong first impression.
  • Staff the computer lab. Welcome job seekers and adult learners as they use our technology tools to further their goals. Assist visitors with job searching, applications and practice of their computer skills.

resale select

  • In-Processing Volunteer: Accept and sort incoming clothing, shoes, accessories and household items. Hang and size clothing in preparation for merchandise pricing. (HIGH SCHOOL+)
  • Cashier: Welcome guests to our store, ring up transactions and answer customer questions. (HIGH SCHOOL+)
  • Customer Associate: Welcome visitors, assist customers with dressing rooms, restock merchandise and keep the store looking its best. (HIGH SCHOOL+)
  • Team Leader: Serve as a leader to other volunteers during each shift. Looking for individuals with experience working with diverse community and strong leadership skills.
  • Donation Receiver: Support our food shelf and resale store by staffing our Donation Receiving door. Thank donors, help load in donations of food, clothing and household goods, and begin to sort and put away donations. (HIGH SCHOOL+)
  • Store Leader: Our leadership volunteers (department leaders and merchandisers) focus on maintaining quality merchandise that reflects the Resale Select brand and keeps our customers coming back. They plan sales, seasonal themes and displays, and determine the store’s pricing structure. (HIGH SCHOOL+)

housing & neighborhoods

  • Build relationships with older adults in our 50 PLUS group in an effort to curb isolation. Together we enjoy informal social gatherings, discussions and offsite community events. (HIGH SCHOOL+)
  • Community Dinners: Provide and serve a meal to one of our Neighborhoods to help provide residents an opportunity to build relationships with their neighbors and strengthen community. Optional: provide and lead kid-friendly activities. (all ages)

general assistance

  • Plan and lead our signature fundraising events (e.g. galas, golf tournament, fundraising breakfasts, etc.) that inspire and invite community support.
  • Committee or Professional Skilled Volunteer Service: Share the unique professional skills you have to further the mission of the organization.
    Administrative projects: Assist with occasional data entry, filing, or organizational projects.
