We talk about giving back pretty often here at Interfaith. Lately, we have been focused on creating a culture of philanthropy. Over the past 39 years, Interfaith has been able to work with thousands of families and kids because of the faithful, dedicated donors who give back and spread the word to ignite others to give as well.
Dave and Jean Dovenberg have done just that. Their granddaughter, Alexandra Murphy, had just turned 6 years old when the power of her grandparents’ words, actions and example came to life. Earlier in the day, she had the exciting experience of losing a tooth. As many 6-year-olds do, she placed the tooth under her pillow and went to bed waiting for the tooth fairy to do her magic.
A few days later, grandma and grandpa got a letter from 6-year-old Alex. Her note simply said, “Dear grandma, here is my fairy money for charity. I really hope that the people get it to help them have food and houses. I love you. Love, Alex.” In the envelope were two crunched up $1 bills, which Grandma and Grandpa Dovenberg proudly sent to Interfaith Outreach and asked that it be added to the Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners’ Endowment Fund.
Thank you, Alex, for becoming the Endowment Fund’s youngest donor by giving your $2 from the tooth fairy to help others. And, thank you to the Dovenbergs for inspiring generations of giving and hearts of kindness! From all of us and from the families and children who will have better days and stronger futures…thank you, thank you!
